Chunky Bible or Smooth?

Remember when I wrote about all those specialty Bibles, like the Green Bible, the Patriot's Bible, and the Anime Bible? Well, the fine folks at Zondervan are coming out with . . . the Chunky Bible!!

Wait, here's the best part:

Chunky mini includes 96 tear-out cards. Each of these little chunks is a perforated removable note – chunks of wisdom, hope, and love – meant to pass along as encouragement for evangelistic messaging in a non-threatening way. These notes are perfect for friends, family, co-workers, or for leaving with a tip at a restaurant for someone you don’t even know!

The lighthearted quotes are coupled with relevant Scripture verses and chunks of wisdom for everyday life with quotes by well-known people from John Ortberg, Mother Thersa, Dolly Parton, and Mark Twain.

“I’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb … I also know I’m not blonde.” – Dolly Parton

“Always do what is right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” – Mark Twain

Wait, hold up here! I thought the Bible was the Word of God, not a collection of cute inspirational quotes. Besides, Mark Twain was irreligious (brilliant writer, though).

Me, I try to keep my faith simple, so I just give me the Bible as it is, without any cute little gimmicks. Is that too much to ask?

  1. Hmm...that's the weirdest Bible(?) I've seen in quite some time!

When will Christians publishers learn that you can't make the Bible cool? (it's beyond cool) The Bible is what it is--you can't put a label on it and try and market it different!

Teens will either read it or not read it--making it look hip isn't going to get them dance around and do whatever it is they were doing in the video!

  2. I'll buy it if it comes with an instructional DVD on how to do the dance choreography in that commercial.

  3. Why don't they just write the verse on the post it they would have already used?
Plus, I'm pretty sure a text message or even an email is more personal than this -_-

  4. *oh* they are quotes? not from Jesus? mmmno.

  5. Scott,

The problem is that American Christians actually buy this stuff. :(

  6. Well, I've been Pagan for 13 years now. Just came back to Christianity now and looking for a handy pocket Bible. This one made the biggest impression on me in Borders, and I like holding it. But I like weird stuff, so meh. On my wishlist now.

And yeah, it does have tear outs but they're in between the Bible books. Would be nice if they made a similar one, in a nice leather color, without the tearouts. It's the chunkiness that I like the most.

    There's a market for everyone. :P

  7. I'm 28 btw. Folk seem to think only teens could possibly like this. My knitting group wants Catholic and KJVs. :P
